Developing player fundamental technical skills within a competitive but fun environment continues to be our core mission and we have been successful in making this happen.
Our objective is to develop self-confidence and inspire our athletes to help themselves and others achieve success in reaching their goals as individuals and as part of their team. The morals, ethics, and integrity we expect from within our club as coaches, staff, and volunteers is also instilled and expected from our players.
The steady growth and development of our athletes and club over the past few years has been evident to everyone and, now with the expansion of adding boys teams, the 2025 season will be the start of another exciting chapter for Phoenix Volleyball Club and we would love for you to be a part of the experience !
We believe the success of our players is achieved through their development in three key areas: personal development, athletic development, and sport specific skill development.
Personal development is important on many levels. Our coaches strive to model and create an environment of trust, respect, and empathy with each player through their words and actions which players can exemplify to others. Team outings and activities including workshops, community service, player journals, goal setting, and coach/player meetings all help to create bonds and life skills required to communicate effectively and manage interpersonal relationships.
Athletic development is achieved through strength and conditioning programs, mental health and nutrition workshops, and other related activities. Creating healthy physical and mental life habits is not only critical in sport but also in every aspect of life.
Volleyball specific fundamentals including correct skill mechanics and proper technique are crucial in creating a strong foundation for our players development. These fundamentals are the baseline standard that our coaches strive to develop in all our players allowing them to progress and enhance their skill set as they mature physically, mentally, and emotionally. As with individual play, team strategy along with self-assessment and analysis is developed into their skill set as players progress.
Our mission is to provide the highest level of dynamic coaching to athletes as possible across all our programs while fostering and growing their love of the game in a competitive but fun and motivating environment. We want to challenge and inspire our athletes to succeed not only on the court as players but, also mirror the same integrity, sportsmanship, and empathy we try to instill into their daily lives.
Sure it's nice to win but, the goal for Phoenix Volleyball coaches is not to win games... it is to provide our athletes with the skills, tools, and opportunity to achieve their own personal and team goals that will lead them to success on and off the court.

Apart from tryouts and Orientation Day in December our official club season begins with the first practice January 2, 2025 and ends with Provincials for 13U teams or Nationals for all other teams. Our club awards banquet is held shortly after Nationals for all teams.
All teams practice at least 3 times a week starting early January and are normally Monday to Thursday evenings as most tournaments start on Friday evenings. Teams may alternate number of practices and/or locations to allow extra practice time if needed for teams with upcoming tournaments. Teams may also practice together to facilitate an environment which allow athletes to train and gain further experience in game like situations.
In addition to our regular practices, we are excited to again announce that a strength and conditioning program will be included as part of our training for select teams. Partnering with the experts at Sport Performance Centre will further enhance the development and well being of our athletes and help to further achieve their personal and team goals.
While we realize the importance and benefit for athletes to explore other activities and sports, being part of the Phoenix Volleyball family is a big commitment. It is a commitment to your team by both players and their families. We believe players that can prioritize their time accordingly will achieve the greatest success and benefit from our club program.

Depending on age class and tournament availability, teams will participate in 5-7 'local region' tournaments including at least one tournament in Brandon as well as the Volleyball Manitoba Provincials. Local tournaments are normally scheduled with games on Friday evenings and carry on into the following day.
Select teams will also attend the Volleyball Canada Nationals which is normally run over 3-4 days. There is no 13U age class for Nationals. Manitoba 14U-18U teams generally compete within the western region which in 2024 is as follows:
Teams may also travel to tournaments in Selkirk, Saskatchewan, and Ontario but these require a minimum roster of players whose families have agreed to attend. Teams may also elect to attend extra tournaments outside of those scheduled by the club but these must be agreed to by the coach and authorized by the club. Your Team Manager will be able to provide related details.
13U tournament games are tripleball format. Depending on tournament availbility/schedule, we try and enter them into two 14U tournaments which are 'regular' volleyball format but with slightly different rules. 13U/14U games are also 'Fair Play' which should not be confused with 'equal' play. Player and parent orientation is the time to meet your teammates, get important club/team information, and get you sized-up for uniforms. You might even have time to play a little volleyball !!
Orientation is also the time for parents to shine and step-up to volunteer. Each team requires a Team Manager/Parent Liaison, First-Aid and/or Athletic Therapist, Official 13U team ball tosser for tripleball games. There's definitely some extra perks for parents that can fill some of these important roles ;)
